Lecturers bored by lessons in teaching
Article Abstract:
Some young academics in the UK are dismissing the training they receive in lecture technique as unnecessary and a waste of time. Many argue that, as they already have teaching experience, the time spent on so-called "academic development courses" is wasted, only adding to already heavy workloads and consuming time that could be better spent on research.

V-cs' 7.9% pay rise is twice that of staff's
Article Abstract:
Vice-chancellor's pay survey reveals that increase in salaries of university chiefs, in 2005-06 was more than twice of academic staff. Vice-chancellors earned an average of 7.9 per cent more in 2005-06 than 2004-05 whereas academic salaries rose just 3 percent.

Top tutors may win UKPd10K
Article Abstract:
The best lecturers in the UK will be entitled to an UKPd10,000 bonus under a restructured National Teaching Fellows scheme. The revamped scheme will also enable groups of academics to apply for study grants of up to UKPd250,000.
