Licence to kill must be revoked
Article Abstract:
The father of one of the 16 children shot dead by gunman Thomas Hamilton at Dunblane Primary School, Scotland, on Mar. 13, 1996, outlines his reasons for calling for a ban on handguns. Hamilton committed his crime with a legally-owned weapon, as did Michael Ryan who shot 16 people dead in and around Hungerford, England, in 1987. A desire to target-shoot is considered sufficient justification for being granted a firearms certificate, but since it is impossible to ensure that a handgun will not be used to kill, their private ownership should be banned.
