Liverpool professor wins large settlement
Article Abstract:
Liverpool John Moores University has reversed a decision to sack Professor Lewis Lesley, an high-profile transport science expert who has given the university 25 years of service, following the highlighting of staff concerns that the disciplinary action taken against Lesley was "grotesque and contrived". It has emerged that Lesley, who has been fully vindicated, will now be given voluntary severance, be recommended for an emeritus professorship and will receive a five-figure settlement.

Article Abstract:
A profile of Ruth Deech, the new head of the UK's Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA), the national student complaints ombudsman. The newly OIA created replaces the quasi-judicial visitor system that had been in operation in old universities and will function as the ultimate court of appeal for students who believe that they have not been fairly treated by an university's own internal complaints procedures.
