Looking out across Columbus: What we mean by ''multiple literacies''

Article Abstract:

Literacy education must begin with recognition of the diversity of ways that written language is used by people across social institutions, with recognition of how people adopt and adapt extant literacy practices to new situations and needs, with recognition of how literacy practices construct social relationships among people and provide social identities. If these multiple literacies are implemented then only young people can participate and contribute to a diverse, complex and democratic society.
