New kids on the block
Article Abstract:
Architects face a challenge when designing new UK universities as they have budgetary restrictions. The Higher Education Design Quality forum was started in the early 1990s, it seeks to bring architects and their clients together to discuss new design ideas. The new learning resource centre, at the Thames Valley University, came out of an idea from the vice chancellor and has resulted in a simple but outstanding building. The universities of Oxford and Cambridge can afford to have specially designed buildings but many lesser establishments had to accept local authority designs.
