Pasqua's private problems
Article Abstract:
The Pole Universitaire Leonard de Vinci in Paris, France, the country's first private university, is running into problems, with few students willing to pay the 26,000 French francs enrolment fee and the faculty's diplomas so far invalidated by all universities. The facility cost 1.2 billion French francs and the project was initiated by former interior minister Charles Pasqua, although France's current government is becoming increasingly distanced from the project. Opponents claim the facilities and funding should be allocated to the nearby overcrowded Nanterre University in Paris, France.

Warring faction
Article Abstract:
Nobel literature laureate Wole Soyinka continues to be outspoken and critical on all issues that outrage him. He has high expectations of academia, society and humanity and is consequently frequently irritated when his standards are not met. He admits to a love-hate relationship with universities in his native Nigeria, Europe and the United States. He writes of his anger at the way American writers factionalise the lives of some people even before their demise. Soyinka spent over two years in prison for his political beliefs. He is Africa's first Nobel literature laureate.

Academics answer racism
Article Abstract:
French academics are increasingly demonstrating great interest in the immigration issue. Petitions and letters of protest began in 1996 following the expulsion of 'sans-papiers' protesters from a church in Paris. According to socio-anthropologist, Christophe Daum, academics are protesting against immigrants being used scapegoats for French identity problems.
