Peer finds way to modify man
Article Abstract:
UK scientist and Labour peer Lord Winston has patented new techniques to produce transgenic animals and humans. This is done by altering the genetic code of male germ cells which produce sperm. Also covered by the patents is a technique to isolate stem cells from tissue.

Scientists were very surprised to find some plants, fish, insects and small animals survived following the Mount St Helens volcano on May 18, 1980. Temperatures on the mountain reached around 350C and 57 people died.
