Scots team up to fend off global competition
Article Abstract:
Academics and universities in Scotland are creating national research teams in order to meet the challenge of research competition from abroad and from England. It has been shown that in a number of research areas, bigger departments tend to fare better than smaller departments, leaving many smaller departments at Scottish Universities unable to sustain concentrations of excellence. In order to combat this the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council has encouraged collaboration between departments in the fields of the creative arts, life sciences, economics and physics.
