Showman's slaves story was near to the truth after all
Article Abstract:
There is controversy in the US as to the authenticity of Alex Haley's book 'Roots.' A researcher claims to have found evidence that links Haley's forebears with a slave taken from the Gambia to America. Other authors have suggested that Haley invented the story and that the links were fictitious. The problem originally occurred because Haley said the story was true, but wrote it as a novel with few documentary sources. Haley said the facts were told to him by his grandmother, hence the lack of documentation.

Make truth the target
Article Abstract:
Issues relating to the debate surrounding the pros and cons of nanotechnology are examined in the light of comments from Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, that nanotechnology poses "enormous environmental and social risks". It is argued that the debate around nanotechnology has to learn from the debate which surrounded genetically modified foods, where the real issues were quickly obscured by a fog of panic and confusion.
