Sino-UK accord opens up doors

Hundreds of academics from the UK are expected to take up posts at universities in China over the next few years as Chinese universities look to boost their academic standards and UK universities look to strengthen collaborations. The higher education sector in China has quadrupled in size over the past six years and institutions within the sector are actively seeking out foreign expertise.

Article Abstract:
A personal account of studying at university with students from overseas and an analysis of the value of foreign students to universities. It is argued that foreign students are important not just because of the additional revenue they generate for universities, but because they tend to have a level of enthusiasm and willingness to work hard that is often missing from domestic students.

UK looks abroad to fill jobs
Article Abstract:
Universities in the UK are becoming increasingly reliant on academic talent from abroad, a survey of 16 universities has revealed. The survey showed that an average of 35% of academic jobs had been filled by overseas applicants in the past two years, while at major research institutions slightly less than half of positions had been filled by applicants from overseas.
