Article Abstract:
A growing numbers of academics in the United Kingdom are signing on with travel companies as "guest lecturers" on cultural travel packages as a way of earning extra money during the summer. It is estimated that the cultural travel market in the UK is worth up to UKPd50 million/yr and it is estimated that around 300 academics will be supplementing their incomes by working as guest lecturers on cultural tours in summer 2004.

Roderick Swanston discusses the work he does as a tour guide on cultural travel packages. Swanston argues that as a cultural tour guide it is his job to know everything about the tour that he is taking and that it is not acceptable for him to answer a question by simply saying that this is not really his field of expertise.
