Staffs Surfs back to its poly roots
Article Abstract:
Staffordshire University has made the Staffordshire University Regional Federation (Surf), the largest higher and further education federal network in England, the backbone of its new mission. Through Surf, via which the university has partnerships with 11 colleges in Shropshire and Staffordshire, the university has found a comfortable way back to its polytechnic roots. Deputy vice-chancellor Paul Richards notes that Staffordshire is not a new university that wants to become like the old universities and that it is not ashamed of its polytechnic roots.

Release of expansion plans irks governor
Article Abstract:
Peter Black, a member of Swansea University's council and governing body, has criticised Richard Davies, the university's vice-chancellor, for publicising the findings of a report into the university's expansion plans before the findings had been seen by the governing council. Black noted that Davies did not follow university procedures and contends that it is the vice-chancellor's job to keep the university council informed of expansion plans.
