Strings to the bow
Article Abstract:
Musicians must be prepared to undertake a variety of engagements and work opportunities. Some conservatoires are giving their graduates vocational guidance to help them manage their workload and to take advantage of a variety of work. They are also being taught to record their work for the Internet or for CD. A study of conservatoire graduates found only 17% had a single job whilst almost 50% obtained work from three different places. The 1991 census found 73% of musicians were self-employed.
