Swan's song of Chairman Mao
Article Abstract:
Author Jung Chang has spent the four years since the publication of her best-selling novel 'Wild Swans' working on a biography of Chinese leader Mao Zedong with her husband, Jon Halliday. Chang, whose parents were sent to separate camps during the cultural revolution, has been delving into the archives and interviewing people in China where her mother still lives. Chang and Halliday are working solely from first-hand sources and completing the book will take another two years. Chang has given up her post at London University to work on the book but admits that she loves writing and doing research.

Article Abstract:
Many residents of Oxford feel that it has been overdeveloped, and that the large number of industrial buildings, car parks, residential housing developments and other commercial projects have ruined the city's landscape, which was once considered beautiful. The developments are continuing at a steady rate because the city is prosperous and the demand is great. The university has not protected the city from modern development, but has fuelled it by selling land from a number of its colleges.
