Stumbling over the stockpile
Article Abstract:
Western observers fear nuclear experts from the former Soviet Union may take jobs from hostile nations such as Libya or Pakistan. This could contribute to proliferation of nuclear weapons, so Western states are trying to em,ploy the scientists instead. The Mountbatten Centre for International Studies at Southampton University is working on the technical and political implications and has said that the opportunity should be taken for the West to reexamine its security policies. There are now potential security problems in central Europe and Asia.

Lifting the heavy veil; the English threat to Arabic
Article Abstract:
The Jordan University for Women aims to encourage women to study at a higher level. Students translate English works into Arabic, part of the drive to use the native language in higher education. English textbooks are used, particularly in science and technology, and using computers relies on knowledge of English. Most Middle Eastern universities teach students in English. Scientific research is done almost exclusively in English.
