Trio to sign up to exploit ideas

IP2IPO, an intellectual property company, expects to sign up three more universities over the next 12 to 18 months in order to exploit their academics' ideas and inventions. The company, which was founded three years ago and is already valued at UKPd237 million, currently creates spin-off companies at Southampton, Oxford, York and Leeds universities and King's College London.

V-cs add to RAE clamour

Almost one third of university heads would scrap the 2008 RAE, according to a poll by The Times Higher. The revelation comes after the announcement by Chancellor Gordon Brown in his Budget that the Treasury wants to replace the 2008 exercuse with a simpler metrics-based assessment.
