A listing and examination of the 20 university lecturers who will receive awards in the fourth round of the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme in London, England, on 15 July 2003. Winners include Emma Baker, a pharmacologist and honorary consultant at St George's Hospital Medical School, London, and Amanda Chetwynd, a statistician who teaches at Lancaster University, who believe in turning traditional teaching on its head by giving students real-life problems before moving on to the theories that could solve them.

Wireless warnings

Universities in the United Kingdom need to develop coherent strategies for the implementation of secure wi-fi networks, otherwise individuals are likely to simply establish their own networks. Tom Franklin, a technology consultant, argues that while security is an issue for universities when coming up with their wireless policy, the main factor holding back universities to date has been fear of the unknown and paranoia about security.
