Voyage to the bottom of the sea
Article Abstract:
Nearly three-quarters of the Earth is under water and the deep seas can provide considerable information about the problems that afflict the planet, such as global warming, yet outer space is currently better explored than the deep-sea floor. Not only does the UK not have a deep-sea submersible, but not even the oceanographic superpowers have a submersible capable of reaching the deepest depths of the ocean. Submersible-based science also tends to focus on hydrothermal vents and cold seeps yet 99.99% of the ocean floor is mud.
