MPs told that v-cs did not sway Brown over RAE
Article Abstract:
Sir Alan Wilson, outgoing director-general for higher education at the Department for Education and Skills (DfES), has said that the government did not act in haste when it moved to replace the RAE with metrics. Sir Wilson has denied all knowledge of claims by Barry Sheerman, chair of the Commons Education and Skills Select Committee, that three vice-chancellors convinced Gordon Brown that changes were quickly needed.

Article Abstract:
An examination of how government censorship of criminal research in the United Kingdom is spreading to academic research. It is argued that academic research into crime and criminology is being stifled as a result of the government's policy that no externally funded research can be published without first receiving ministerial approval.
