'We had a name with one dead county in it'
Article Abstract:
David Chiddick, vice-chancellor of Lincoln University, formerly called the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside, explains the reasoning behind the university's attempts to relaunch itself as a "cathedral city" university. Chiddick, who joined Lincoln in 2000, notes that when he arrived applications to the university were falling, down from 10,000 to 6,600, and that Lincoln was failing to dominate its home market of the "Greater Lincolnshire" region. Following the university's relaunch, in 2003 Lincoln saw applications rise by 19% to over 14,000.

...believe our student bursaries will help keep Oxford open to all
Article Abstract:
The vice-chancellor of Oxford University argues that the university's new undergraduate bursary scheme, which will provide students from low-income families with up to UKPd10,000 over three years or up to UKPd13,000 over four years, will help ensure that potential students from all backgrounds will still be able to take up places at Oxford. It is argued that it was necessary for Oxford to introduce these new bursaries as it is essential that merit, not money, be the key to entry to Oxford.

UEA asks drivers to think green
