Whole-school detracking: A strategy for equity and excellence
Article Abstract:
The detracking strategy, curriculum and scaffolds for supporting student success erected by the Preuss School are discussed. Tutoring, mentoring, advisory classes and the structure of the school day helped students form low-income households towards college eligibility and enrollment.

Students' perspectives on tracking and detracking

The perceptions of students towards tracking practices and equity-minded policies for detracking schools are discussed. Students dislike the tracking system as they believe that opportunity and access should be provided for all students by the educational system in America.

The challenges of discussing deeply rooted notions of ability, intelligence and tracking in teacher inquiry groups are examined. The conversation in inquiry groups helps the teachers in identifying ways to counteract tracking pressures in a detracking school environment.
