Article Abstract:
An analysis of the statement by Charles Clarke, UK Education Secretary, that minority foreign languages - such as Turkish, Japanese and Arabic - should be regarded as important subjects for study at university and should be deemed of national strategic importance. Also examined is the state of language education as a whole in the UK.

English deficit leads to cheating
Article Abstract:
Academics have warned that language difficulties among Chinese students in the UK are so bad that some resort to cheating in an effort to pass exams. Chinese students use a range of cheating methods, ranging from writing on erasers and other objects taken into exams to memorising and reproducing whole essays written by others.
