...support Charles Clarke and his wish to see relevance in academe
Article Abstract:
Issues relating to statements made by Charles Clarke in which he expressed his impatience with academic pursuits that take place entirely separately from the real world, with no relation to the struggles faced by people in the "real" world are examined. It is argued that if the UK government wants to develop an education system that serves our collective aspirations for prosperity, self-fulfillment, supportive and just societies and the life-supporting environment upon which everything depends, then it needs to make an unambiguous statement and support institutions that take up the challenge.

Article Abstract:
Issues relating to the UK government's attempts to increase the number of pupils from state schools going on to higher education are examined. It is argued that what the government should do is stop tinkering with the entry requirements for state school pupils who want to enter higher education, and instead focus on improving the standard of education that pupils in state schools are receiving.

Article Abstract:
Issues relating to the education system in the United Kingdom and the suggestion that the gap is widening between those with academic qualifications and those without are examined. It is suggested that with the general increase in the amount of people staying on to take academic qualifications, the academic system is becoming increasingly unimaginative and is rewarding conformity.
