...think France has given up on culture
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the deteriorating relationship between the political establishment and the academic and cultural worlds in France. It is argued that in the view of the French political system, and particularly in the view of prime minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin, professional intellectual activities amount to little more than an expensive paid hobby and, therefore, culture is no longer a national priority in a France that is simply trying to meet its public deficit barrier for 2005.

'I put my head in the maw of the leviathan - Las Vegas'
Article Abstract:
A lecturer in philosophy at the University of Picardie in Amiens, France, describes his impressions and experiences of Las Vegas, Nevada, in the light of the publication of his book "Zeropolis: The Experience of Las Vegas". Las Vegas is described as being a capitalist virtual extravaganza with no past or present that operates by forcing everybody to either submit to everything that Las Vegas stands for or be exiled to the city's margins.

Websites sell rare Asian manuscripts from US and European addresses and the West should investigate cases and inform authorities in the relevant countries when rare books and manuscripts are being sold.
