Kenyan students go on rampage
Article Abstract:
Kenyatta University was closed in late 1995 following a riot involving 5,000 students, provoked by complaints over food prices, accommodation and a new loans scheme. Property was damaged, and junior staff were attacked. The University is the largest in Kenya with facilities for 6,000 students. The loans scheme has been criticised for awarding funds to wealthy students and denying loans to poorer students.
