Right-winger in unity call
Article Abstract:
The student union at Bar-Ilan University, Israel, has elected a right-wing religious student, Meir Lapid, as its head. A student from Bar-Ilan previously assassinated Yitzhak Rabin, Israeli prime minister. Lapid's election was opposed by a coalition, but its members have since decided to work with him. Meir argues that he is in favor of unity, but critics argue that this unity does not include Israeli Arabs, and there is concern that the univerisity could be identified with the far right.
