Broadcasters link forces to share digital equipment
Article Abstract:
The five leading Japanese broadcasting companies have formed a joint venture for purchasing terrestrial-wave digital broadcasting equipment. The companies said that forming a venture would enable them to lower the costs of acquiring the equipment. Terrestrial-wave digital broadcasts will start in Japan in 2003, with investment costs for private stations reaching 600 billion for equipment installation alone. The members include Nippon Television Network Corp, Tokyo Broadcasting System Inc, Fuji Television Network Inc, Asahi Broadcasting Corp and Television Tokyo Channel 12 Ltd.

New president seeks to instill 'will to succeed' throughout Nichicon
Article Abstract:
Ippei Takeda is the new president and CEO of Nichicon, succeeding Kiichiro Hirai, who served the company for 47 years. Takeda credits his experience as plant manager of Nichicon's Ohno factory for having a multi-faceted view of the company. He says he will instill an attitude of constant improvement at the company's senior-management level. Nichicon, according to Takeda, will continue efforts to improve its mainstay line of electrolytic capacitors.

Advanatest teams with R&S in digital measuring tools
Article Abstract:
Advantest Corp of Japan and Rohde and Schwartz GmBH of Germany has inked a cooperative sales agreement in which Advantest will sell Rohde's measuring instruments for terrestrial digital TV broadcasting in Japan. The Japanese distributor is aiming to increase sales of Rohde's equipment by 100%. Rohde will help out its Japanese partner by strengthening its marketing activities and introducing new products in Japan.
