Copy protection clears path for consumer-use of recordable CDs
Article Abstract:
The implementation of the Agency for Cultural Affair's copyright royalties surcharge system for recordable and rewritable CDs in Japan in Jan 1, 1998 has paved the way for such type of optical recording media to enter the Japanese market. The Optical Storage Technology Assn has also developed and approved a standard circuitry on CD players to allow any unit to read pre-recorded, recordable and rewritable CDs.
