DVD-audio players find warmly receptive market
Article Abstract:
Manufacturers of DVD-Audio players are gearing up for sales campaigns by Oct 2000. Several companies including Toshiba Corp, Nippon Columbia Company Ltd and Onkyo Corp will release DVD-Audio players and introduce their models before the end of the year. There are two categories of DVD- Audio discs, the audio-only models storing nly audio data and the discs that can store still or moving images as well as text and audio. Thus, there are three varieties of prerecorded DVD discs including the existing DVD-Video discs.

XL-Z999EX CD players

Victor Company of Japan Ltd has introduced its XL-Z99EX deluxe CD player. The product features the company's proprieatary Extended K2 processing technology which expands the audio signals through a double sampling frequency to ensure quality CD reproduction of the original sound from digital input. XL-Z99EX is priced at 650,000 yen ($5,328). A companion release, SX-900, with a fine-quality rosewood speaker cabinet, carries a tag of 900,000 yen per unit.

Shipments of portable MD players hit 3 million in 2000
Article Abstract:
Portable MiniDisc player shipments in Japan may have reached 3 million units in 2000. The Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Assn reported shipments of 2,439,000 units from Jan through Nov 2000, a 10.4% increase from the same period of 1999. If shipments in Dec 2000, exceeded sales of Dec 1999, by 10% or more, shipments for the year will be approximately 3 million. Shipments in Dec 1999 reached 450,000 units.
