Digital camcorders flaunt latest advances to compel demand
Article Abstract:
Manufacturers of flash memories are increasing their production capacities to meet rising demand, particularly from the mobile phone market which is expected to grow by 70% in FY99 to 250 million units. Flash memories are used to store programs and charge information in cellular phone units. As a result, leading makers such as Intel Corp, Sharp Corp, Fujitsu-AMD Semiconductors and Mitsubishi Electric Corp are increasing their production capacity and shifting to large-capacity memories such as 32M-bt and 64M-bit from the 16M-bit models they offer.

DVD-Audio Spects Spur Software Makers to Action, Spell New Trends
Article Abstract:
The DVD Forum WG4, in cooperation with the International Steering Committee, is expected to establish DVD-Audio as the official format for music media in the 21st century. The release in mid-June 1998 of the DVD-Audio Format Version 0.9, which aims to take advantage of the medium's speed and huge capacity, has resulted in moves to produce equipment conforming to both DVD-Audio and DVD-Video formats. The software makers have responded by releasing DVD titles that can be played on such devices.

Software innovations, DVD shape Matsushita's vision for year 2000
Article Abstract:
Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd has revised its FY1999 projection for global DVD demand to over 6 million units. The company, reacting to better-than-anticipated growth in the North American market, has already doubled its monthly DVD player production capacity to 200,000 units as of Aug 1999. Matsushita has also started monitoring the Chinese market in an effort to determine if an addition to the monthly output of 5,000 units from its plant in China is warranted.
