Article Abstract:
Flotec Engineering Inc has developed a portable 2.5-inch hard disc drive with capacities ranging from 6 to 20GB. The product allows hot plugging and hot-swaping through and draws power from a Universal Serial Bus. The portable hard disc drive weighs 144g and measures 125 x 74 x 12mm. It is compatible with IBM-PC and Macintosh computers. The Universal Serial Bus cable is available in 500mm and 700mm lengths.

Hard drives outgrow computer roots, head for A/V arena
Article Abstract:
Hard disk drives are increasingly finding new applications beyond its common use as an auxiliary storage device for personal computers. These include color televisions, video recorders and camcorders. For video recorders, developers of hard disk drives are empahsizing the per-gigabyte cost-effectiveness of their product. In camcorders, hard disk drives are replacing tapes for image storage.

HDD makers race to offer first of fastest, large-capacity drives

Manufacturers of hard disk drives are racing to the market with new models that offer greater capacities and other improvements. The intense competition is forcing manufacturers to put their latest models into mass production as quickly as possible.
