Hitachi Maxell jump-starts 1998 battery campaign worldwide

Hitachi Maxell Ltd of Japan intends to capture another 10% to 15% share of the rechargable battery market by revising its marketing strategy and increasing its production capacity to almost four million cells a month. The firm, which has been focusing on cylindrical batteries, has started shifting its energies to the production of rectangular battery models. Hitachi has also sucessfully employed production techniques from its other products to rechargeable battery production.

Cell phone market prompts GP to build lithium-ion battery business
Article Abstract:
GP Batteries International is developing lithium-ion batteries to cope with strong demand for power supplies used in portable electronic equipment. The company has expanded its manufacturing facility in Taiwan, which has the capacity to produce 10 million lithium-ion cells annually. Besides lithium cells, GP also manufactures nickel-cadmium and nickel- metal hydride batteries. These two products account for 47% of GP's total production.
