1984 is the year the personal computer industry approaches, and possibly breaks, the ten billion dollar sales barrier. There are many unanswered questions, troubled companies, and unsettled technologies but these problems are overcome by pent up demand and the perception of the computer as a necessity. Home computer unit sales should be up thirty-seven per cent, to 5.9 million. Software for home computers is expected to reach $2.4 billion. Personal computers should see a seventy per cent increase in unit sales, up to 3.1 million.

Magnavox Plans Second-Half Push for Rack Systems, Adds New CDs

Magnavox plans to expand its line of rack systems in the second half of 1984. The company sources products from Marantz plants in the Far East. The line should range in price from $399 to $1,000. Magnavox will also strengthen its CD line.
