Article Abstract:
The current account surplus for goods and services in Japan was 769.1 billion on Oct 2000, a figure which is 28.6% less than the account surplus in Oct 1999. The decline is attributable to the 26.7% increase in imports whose value reached 3.39 trillion yen, an all-time high for a single month. Imports of semiconductors for computers and business machines showed a particularly sharp increase. Imports of business machines and other products related to personal computers increased 60.3%.
