Large-screen TVs, projection TVs form core of Hitachi's European strategy

Hitachi Ltd's European marketing efforts will center on its large-screen TVs, LC projection TVs and DVD players. New product introductions include 28- and 32-inch wide-screen TVs featuring decoders for terrestrial digital broadcasts. Future product introductions will include a decoder that allows the reception of pay-per-channel broadcasts. The company's digital strategy is being formulated and implemented by the Digital Media Group, which has annual sales of about Y300 billion.

Yamaha intensifies efforts to retain European A/V stronghold
Article Abstract:
Yamaha Corp has earned some measure of success from its audio-video (A/V) equipment strategy for the European market. Sales of A/V equipment have increased more than 30% in value in the first half of fiscal year 1998 from the fiscal year 1997 level. Sales of home theater-related products, meanwhile, have risen 50% in fiscal year 1998 from the previous year. The company is aiming for a more than 10% sales increase for fiscal year 1999.
