Makers rely on DVDs to enhance quality of car theater systems
Article Abstract:
The car audio industry is experiencing a new phase of evolution with advances in information technology and the development of more sophisticated car entertainment products. In Japan, car navigation systems have rapidly entered the market. In Europe and in the US, demand has taken off for car theater equipment, which are versions of home theater systems designed for use in vehicles. These entertainment products allow drivers and passengers to watch movies and listen to music in the car.

DVD sales soar, prices fall, Chinese production climbs
Article Abstract:
Worldwide demand for DVD players in 2000 is projected to reach 17 million units, an increase of 100% from the previous year. This is because of soaring sales in Asia, Europe and the US. Demand for the products in the US alone is expected to climb to 10 million units. Also, shipment of recorded DVD discs reached 20 million in 2000, an increase of 2.5 times over shipment in 1999.
