Pioneer's consumer-user encoder packs high-tech Dolby features
Article Abstract:
Pioneer Electronic Corp of Japan has developed the Dolby Digital Consumer Encoder (DDCE), the first consumer-use encoder certified by Dolby Laboratories Corp. The DDCE is capable of two-channel input with pulse- code modulated audio encoding and can be connected to digital video disc recorders and home audio systems to produce superior sound quality. It differs from a professional-use encoder in terms of coupling, bit allocation, bit rate limitations and dynamic range compression.

Fujitsu Ten prepares for future of car multimedia
Article Abstract:
Japanese firm Fujitsu Ten Ltd has stepped up R and D efforts in the mobile communications equipment and automobile audio-visual equipment fields in anticipation of the future prospects of car multimedia. Company sales reached 18 billion yen in the FY ended in Mar 1998 in the audio-visual equipment field, with automobile audio-visual systems as Fujitsu Ten's mainstay product. Sales of audio-visual navigation products increased by 8 billion yen during the same period.
