RCA: Death of Disc Overshadows New Vibrance in VCR
Article Abstract:
RCA predicts that 1984 color TV unit sales will reach the fifteen to sixteen million mark, and VCR sales will reach 6.7 million. RCA also announced that the company is going to abandon the CED videodisc project after three years and $580 million in losses. The reason for giving up the project was the drop in prices and the fact that it was hard for RCA, alone in the project, to raise consumer awareness.

Disc, Cassette Sales - Industry's '84 Terms of Endearment
Article Abstract:
Unit sales of prerecorded videotapes and videodiscs will increase fifty and forty percent respectively in 1984. This will be due in part to the desire of manufacturers to show good sales statistics and the move toward lower prices. Tape rentals, although hard to track, should show a sixty percent increase in dollar volume, reaching $288 million.
