Roundtable: Independents Map Out '84 Strategy: Salesmanship, Service, Smarts
Article Abstract:
Sales for independent consumer electronics dealers have been experiencing good growth over the last year. Profit margins have been kept up by working with different brands and taking cash discounts. Price and image building ads as well as packaged systems are some of the newer promotional pratices in use. Independent dealers have the advantage of being able to introduce new lines and products. Higher interest rates and lack of availability of products are two of the potential problems in the future.

Tape: Microrecorder Makers Seeking End to Pint-Sized Market Image
Article Abstract:
Suppliers such as Panasonic, Olympus, Sony, and General Electric believe that the microrecorder may, despite slow sales up to now, change the shape of the tape industry. Sales of microrecorders in Japan have improved after the introduction of software, and the same thing is expected to happen in the United States. Two factors which should affect the move from business use to entertainment are the availability of software and price level.
