Saddler on SKC's Tape Strategy: Doing It the American Way

Sunkyong Industries plans to introduce its lines of audio cassettes and floppy discs in June 1984. Sunkyoug is the New Jersey affiliate of a Korean corporate group with nine billion dollars in assets. The company has already introduced a line of video tape to the United States market. George Saddler, executive vice-president of Sunkyong, believes that the number of blank tape suppliers will fall to about fifteen by 1986. Sunkyong's brand, SKC, will occupy the low end of the pricing spectrum.

Private Label Tape: Moving in on the Majors with Low-End Offerings
Article Abstract:
Low priced private label blank videocassettes are causing consternation in the videocassette market. Regular tape suppliers say that these private label tapes are of inferior quality. Off brand tape suppliers contend that their tapes are of high quality and low price. No-name tapes are expected to claim between nine and ten per cent of the market.
