SNCC calls for SOC focus in Japan's device industry
Article Abstract:
Japan's semiconductor industry could regain a leading role in the global device industry by tapping the country's technological strengths in information and home electronics and applying that knowledge to systems- on-chips. According to the Semicoductor in New Century Committee, the Japanese semiconductor industry is lacking the required ability to respond to the rapid changes in designs and technologies that will characterize the next phase in semiconductor product development. Systems-on-chips should help correct the situation by creating advavnced-performance, affordable systems that anyone can use.

Fujitsu, Dainippon ink pact for fine-line photomasks
Article Abstract:
Fujitu Ltd and Dainippon Printing Co Ltd in Jul 2000 agreed to jointly develop photomasks for semiconductors employing 0.13micrometer and finer design rules. Under the agreement, Dainippon will supply the photomasks, allowing Fujitsu to focus on cutting-edge technologies as it shifts away from making photomasks. The benefit to Dainippon is that its production will increase, permitting it to enjoy the economies of scale. The two companies will also develop binary, phase-shift and other mask tech\nologies.
