Why directional pruning works - and why customers hate it

Tree pruning in the vicinity of power lines costs electric utilities about $22 billion per annum. The preferred method is directional pruning, which is approved by the International Society of Arboriculture. However, this method is unpopular with the public who dislike the appearance of such trees.
