XR system crosses the line into superior-resolution images
Article Abstract:
Sony Corp is incorporating its Extended Resolution (XR) technology for 8mm camcorders in all its variants for 1998. XR technology allows a 10% enhancement in horizontal image resolution for high-frequency, low-contrast video signals on Hi8 camcorders, and a 20% improvement for standard 8mm camcorders. Considerably better image quality is achieved by manipulating video signals via proper demodulation near the audio band, without compromising audio quality. It is noted that camcorders with XR technology are still fully compatible to those without it.
