Fathom 4.0 for Windows
Article Abstract:
Applied Flow Technology's pipe flow analysis software can identify piping heat transfer during calculation of internal heat-transfer coefficients in conjunction with user-specified insulation valves. The 32-bit version, which features run times that are faster by a factor of 10, is available with a library of fluids and fittings, capabilities for friction modeling non-Newtonian fluids, and variable model configurations. Customers can order the software with Chempak, an optional thermophysical database of over 600 fluids.

Try lead: Soft, but tough on corrosives
Article Abstract:
Lead has long been used in various chemical process industries (CPI) applications due to the material's malleability and softness, and excellent resistance to difficult chemicals. In addition, lead's electric and therman conductivity to other metallic surfaces make it highly useful in CPI applications. Uses of lead include tanks for sulfuric acid, piping, reaction vessels, and clad heating coils.

Vibration monitor can remain submerged indefinitely
Article Abstract:
Robertshaw Controls Co's Model 570 stud mount accelerometer measures the vibration of rotating and reciprocating machinery such as blowers, pumps, and turbine interfaces with data loggers, DCSs and PLCs. The loop-powered device, which does not need calibration, is suited for continuous monitoring of shutdown use, alarm and trending. It also offers a 4-20 mA output proportionate to vibration.
