Fiduciary redundance
Article Abstract:
A large US bank conducted a study on the advantages of the N+2 redundancy concept, a system wherein there are two backups for every cooling and electric power equipment. The N+2 concept was used to protect and ensure the efficiency of the bank's data processing equipment. The goals of the redundancy project were to study the current levels of redundancy, to identify possible points of failure, to estimate probability of each failure mode, to estimate the effect of each failure mode and to identify and design upgrades that respond to the failure modes.

Banking on fuel cells to supply critical loads
Article Abstract:
First National Bank of Omaha has a new 200,000-sq-ft technology center that it activated by fuel cells. The center, which facilitates credit card orders, marks the first successful installation of four parallel fuel cells that power a vital computer load. The 2N system that powers First National Bank's facility was created to speed up online maintenance, enhance availability and abolish single points of failure. Industry experts believe that if the facility's power malfunctions, a solitary client can lose up to $6 million per hour.
