First-pass yield increases - quality declines
Article Abstract:
Ceeris International Inc has a new benchmark quality indicator for board populating performances. The number of solder joints per board is multiplied by first-pass yield percentage to arrive at the simple index. Popular assembly operations in 1987 and 1991 were sampled and compared, showing a steady increase in the first-pass yield. However, there were large discrepancies in actual quality performances. Surface mount technology has caused boards to become smaller and reduced the total number of leads per board, resulting in a lowered quality performance index.

Companies should also take note of nearby control flooding protection, the availability of flood barriers and weather reports, and train their employees annually before every flood season.
