Managing diseases without the 'Q' word
Article Abstract:
Disease management clearly has close links with traditional quality improvement, even though quality improvement techniques used in health care environments are known by many different names. The key elements of most disease management programmes are clinical outcomes management, clinical guidelines, computer data collection, provider education, benchmarking, outcome studies and patient-compliance monitoring. Disease management programmes are particularly beneficial for patients suffering from a chronic illness such as asthma or diabetes.

A terrific book: a compatriot I will miss
Article Abstract:
Author Edward R. Tufte's $45 book 'Visual Explanations: Images and Quantities, Evidence and Narrative' compels its readers to reflect on how to communicate information visually. The book is excellent in both substance and style. Along with Tufte's previous books, 'Envisioning Information' and 'The Visual Display of Quantitative Information', 'Visual Explanations' is a must-read and inviting volume for statisticians.
