Model describes engineered cartilage
Article Abstract:
A mathematicam model that can measure the concentration of glycosaminoglycan (GAG) has been developed by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. GAG is an indicator of cartilage development in bioengineered cartilage as a function of position within the tissue and cultivation time. The model supports a first-order dependence of GAG synthesis on oxygen concentration although the exact mechanisms that control GAG synthesis, catabolism and deposition remain largely unknown.
