New scale and corrosion treatment is undaunted by halogenated biocides
Article Abstract:
BetzDearborn, Inc. of Trevose, PA, has launched a new cooling-water treatment process called the Dianodic Plus treatment that could control corrosion and scale formation in the copper alloys used in cooling systems. Dianodic Plus could also resists degradation by chlorine and bromine through its use of non-phosphorus scale inhibitors and a modified azole called the halogen-resistance azole. Dianodic Plus, which contains a number of polymeric dispersants and inorganic phosphates, could prolong the service-life of cooling systems and reduces need for treatment chemicals and makeup water needs.

On-line leak sealing
Article Abstract:
Chemical process engineers are seeking innovative ways to design or modify chemical processes to minimize the formation of unwanted byproducts. Two available simulation methods are the Process Integration (PI), developed by El-Halwagu and Manousiouthakis at UCLA, and the Waste Reduction Algorithm (WAR) developed at the Environmental Protection Agency. PI is concerned with the improvement of process efficiency and keeping the targeted component from leaving the system, while WAR is concerned with the evaluation of the potential environmental effect of a chemical process.
