Operations management of multiple machine automatic warehousing systems
Article Abstract:
An integrative model of a warehouse containing several storage/retrieval (S/R) machines integrated within a total system was investigated. While previous studies analyzed performance in terms of throughput and travel times of the S/R machines, the study added performance measures such as queue lengths, response times and utilization of the S/R machines. The effects of various operations management tactics on performance were studied using a simulation of the integrative model. The results showed that economic gains were possible without sacrificing performance.

An investigation of due-date assignment using workload information of a dynamic shop
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine due-date assignment based on a dynamic shop's workload information. The study considers proportional workload functions (PWF) and cumulative distribution functions (CDF) as workload forms. It is shown that optimal results are obtained when due dates are assigned based on job content and workload information. In addition, CDF systems exhibited better results in dispatching functions compared to PWF.

Sequencing picking operations and travel time models for man-on-board storage and retrieval warehousing system
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine problems involved in sequencing picking operations and travel time models. The study focuses on man-on-board (MOB) storage systems and considers its order sequencing problem in storing small size and light weight items. Computer simulation is then employed to test the procedure's effect. Results show that such a procedure exhibits better performance than previous systems.
